Odisha: Addl Tehsildar thrashes elderly street vendor, video goes viral

Jharsuguda: Additional Tehsildar Jobita Tirkey has landed in trouble over thrashing an elderly street vendor with a stick at Bombay Chhak here. A video of the incident has gone viral on various social media platforms.

As per the allegation of the vendor who was selling watermelons on roadside, the official reached the spot and scolded him when he was about to close the shop after the stipulated time for sale during lockdown.

She also seized his weighing machine, to which he opposed. The bureaucrat then started beating him with a stick, he alleged.

As the video of the incident went viral, the Additional Collector of the area took cognizance of the matter while Tirkey has apologised to the vendor. Necessary action will be taken in this connection after a probe, the Additional Collector said.
