In a curious role reversal, the ruling BJD members created a pandemonium in the Assembly today protesting against the central government for its alleged neglect of Odisha’s interests on the Polavaram issue, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 3 pm.

As soon as the Quesion House began, treasury bench members trooped into the House waving banners and raising slogans against the centre on the Polavaram issue and its failure to provide assiatnce to the state for rehabilitation and restoratio work in areas affected by Cyclone Phailin last year and Hudhud this year. The protest lasted barely two minutes before the Speaker adjourned the House.

The opposition cried foul accusing the ruling party of fishing out the Polavaram issue to avoid debating the chit fund scam.

“The ruling party had agreed at the all-party meeting on Saturday to allow a debate on the issue today. But they have gone back on their commitment to escape a debate on the chit fund scam. This is murder of democracy,” said Congress member Naba Das.
