Odisha Bandh on July 19 over Ruchika Mohanty suicide case

Bhubaneswar: The controversy surrounding the death of BJB College student Ruchika Mohanty refuses to die down with Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) along with its student wing Navnirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan (NYCS) calling for Odisha Bandh on July 19, seeking justice for the girl.

NNKS Convenor Akshaya Kumar informed about the state-wide shutdown at a presser here today.

Besides, the farmer leader warned that activists of the outfit would stage a peaceful protest in front of the Police Headquarters in Cuttack on July 17 over the issue.  He has urged leaders cutting across party lines to extend support by joining the protest. This apart, Akshaya Kumar along with Ruchika’s mother will visit various colleges in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from July 14 to July 17 to raise suicide prevention awareness among students.

The farmer leader alleged that the police are yet to get any clue even after 12 days of the girl’s suicide.

“The cops have ruled out ragging as the reason of the girl’s suicide, though she had mentioned it in her suicide note. While mother of the deceased was sitting on dharna, police personnel forcibly picked her up. The hostel warden and the superintendent should resign on moral grounds,” said NNKS Convenor.
