The Odisha Unit of BJP will wrap up its organisational elections by December 2015. The decision was taken today in the party core committee meeting held at state headquarters.

Attended by BJP Odisha President KV Singhdeo, State in-charge Arun Singh and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan among other bigwigs, the meeting deliberated on issues such as political scenario of the state, farmer suicide and organisational structure of the party in the state.

Speaking to reporters outside the venue, Arun Singh blamed the State Government for the rising cases of farmer suicide.

“The small farmers are committing suicide because of loan burden. They have taken small loans like Rs 25,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh. The State Government did announce a package, but the money never reached the farmers. The farmers lost hope from the government after the money lenders chided them repeatedly. This is the reason they are committing suicide. These are troubling incidents,” said Singh.

Union Minister Pradhan also pulled up the government for its inaction and accused it of not doing sufficient and methodologically to get the required grants from the centre.

“So far as my knowledge is concerned, the State Government is yet to submit an official memorandum to the Union Government, based on which the Central Government team would do a joint survey of the drought situation here and issue funds,” accused Pradhan.
