Odisha chess star Saina felicitated by AICF

Odisha’s ace chess player Saina Salonika was today felicitated by All India Chess Federation (AIFC) here at Russian Center of Science and Culture for winning the bronze medal in the World Youth Chess Championship in the U-12 Girl category concluded recently at Halkidiki, Greece.

Saina was given a memento, shawl and cash award of Rs 30, 000.

It is worthwhile mentioning that Saina is the only girl from Odisha to win three medals in the World Youth Chess Championships. Earlier, she also won the gold medal in the U-10 Girl category at All Ain UAE in 2013 and bronze medal in U-8 Girl category at Caldas Novas, Brazil in 2011. After winning the bronze medal at Greece, Saina is selected to represent India in the U-14 Girl category in the World Youth Chess Championship 2016 to be held in Russia.

Saina secured the bronze medal in the World Youth Chess Championship in the U-12 Girl category at Halkidiki, Greece which was held from October 24 to November 6 this year.

The felicitation programme was attended by Omkar Kedia Joint Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Sports and Youth Services, DV Sundar Vice President FIDE, Bharat Singh Chouhan CEO, All India Chess Federation, A.Venkat Raja, President AICF, V.Hariharan Honrary Secretary AICF and Sekhar Sahu, Vice President AICF.
