Odisha CM orders survey for elevated corridor on Raj Bhawan-Nandankanan road

With an intent to ease the growing traffic on the Raj Bhawan-Nandankanan road, Odisha Chief Minister today directed the Works department to undertake a survey for construction of an elevated corridor on this section, said an official.

That apart, the Chief Minister while chairing a review meeting of the Works department at state secretariat here also directed the department to conduct a survey for construction of an alternative parallel road to Nandankanan, the official added.

“The Chief Minister has directed us to conduct a study and survey for an elevated corridor from Raj Bhawan to Nandankanan and submit a report very soon,” said Nalini Kanta Pradhan Works Secretary speaking to reporters after the review meeting.

The Chief Minister further directed the department officials for four laning of main roads of all sub divisions in the state.

“He has directed us for four laning of all major roads in sub divisions. We will conduct a survey and submit a report and then budgetary for the same will be made,” Pradhan said.

It may be noted here that barring Malkangiri, four laning work of main roads in all district headquarters have been completed.

Patnaik asked officials to complete work on the Rourkela-Sambalpur section of the important Biju Expressway by March 2017 while directing for expediting work on the Sohela-Ambapani section.

Construction work of Malkangiri’s Gurupriya Bridge including construction of four medical colleges barring the one at Puri would be completed by June 2017, it was revealed at the meeting.

Similarly, construction of the bridge over river Mahanadi at Nelson Mandela in Sambalpur which is under construction and the bridge over river Ib at Jharsuguda will be completed by June 2017. The bridge over river Kathajodi at Cuttack will be completed by February 2017, it was told at the meeting.

It was further revealed at the meeting that construction of 44 wayside amenities at various locations alongside highways was in progress.

The meeting was told that the Works department has already spent 62 percent of its budget allocation by November and would achieve 100 per cent by March.

The meeting was attended among others by Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Development Commissioner, and Secretary Works department.
