Odisha CM scotches rumours of liver transplant in US

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today cleared the air on reports about his liver transplantation in the United States for which he will be away from office for four months.
An online portal www.naradanews.com had last month reported that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would undergo liver transplant at a Michigan-based hospital for which he would be on leave for four months till he recuperates from the major surgery. Patnaik has been suffering from chronic grade 4 liver cirrhosis for the past few years, it said.
While the media report went viral on various platforms, the Chief Minister today clarified that he is absolutely fine and doing well.
The website quoting sources had reported that Patnaik has an extensive habit of drinking alcohol which apparently led to the chronic disease and he was under the consultation of very well known Gastroenterologists for the past few years. Now, the Odisha CM has taken the call by deciding to go for a treatment in Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak in Michigan.
Further the report said, a 10-member team from Odisha which includes some state Administrative officers along with two high profile Gastroenterologists, one his personal doctor from Odisha and another Gastroenterologist from Delhi, will be accompanying the CM, according to Embassy of India, US.
“Patnaik will be leaving for Michigan by 5th of March and will be taking 3-4 months complete rest post surgery before he comes back to India by the end of April,” the report added.
