Odisha unit of Congress today announced that it will take out ‘Jana Akrosh’ rallies across all the blocks and district headquarters of the state to protest against the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 bills by the Union Government.

The party has rescheduled its panchayat taskforce meet – earlier scheduled from November 26 — in view of the new agenda. The taskforce meet will be held from December 2 in three phases, said PCC President Prasad Harichandan addressing reporters in Bhubaneswar today.

“Six days after demonetisation, the Union Government waived off Rs 6,000 crore from 63 industrialists. Is it patriotism to love the common men of this country or is it so to love the industrialists,” questioned Prasad while calling demonetisation a “mega scam”.

Reacting to Prasad’s allegation, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said that the party is worried as it has a lot of black money with it.

“Congress never fought against the corrupt. It will never do. They are instead trying to protect the corrupt as they themselves have a lot of black money,” said Oram.

Apart from the demonetisation issue, PCC President Prasad Harichandan today took to Facebook to clear the air surrounding infighting in Odisha Congress and blamed media for hyping up the situation.

“It appears, as if the media plays down the infighting in other parties when compared with the attention they give to Congress infighting. Those who are influential and rule, manage to scare off the media,” commented Prasad.

Meanwhile, opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati reiterated that there are “cracks inside Congress”.

“There are cracks inside Congress. Some people are open about it and some are not. I would like the AICC to intervene, call up everyone involved, discuss the issue and sort it out before the panchayat polls,” said Bahinipati today.
