Rayagada: The youth and student wing of the Congress party state unit today lodged an FIR with Town police against the event organiser and college principal over a girl student earlier injured after being scalded by hot oil at Nua-O Fest in Rayagada district on January 10.

A delegation of Congress leaders demanded action against the alleged wrongdoers.

Opposition BJP and Congress previously expressed their resentment and deep concerns about the fatal mishap. The political parties had met Rayagada district Collector and Superintendent of Police seeking justice.

As per the FIR, the organiser and principal included the students without their parents’ permission. The students were transported by a bus to the event site. Several of them even did not have lunch. Zilla Parishad executive officer had organised the event with the help of the college principal.

PCC general secretary Durga Prasad Panda, INC student unit president Nikhil Patnaik, and several other leaders along with Congress supporters were present at the Town police station.

Worth mentioning, a stampede-like situation was created during ‘Nua-O, Yuba Odisha Nabin Odisha’ programme held in Rayagada town of this district and two girl students who had come to the event sustained grievous injuries in the incident on the intervening day.
