Odisha: Former OMC chairman, retired IAS officer Mrinal Kanti Purkait passes away at 82

Bhubaneswar: Odisha cadre and 1967-Batch retired IAS officer Dr Mrinal Kanti Purkait breathed his last today at the age of 82 years, after a brief illness. Originally from West Bengal, after superannuation, Mrinal Kanti was residing in Saheed Nagar locality of Bhubaneshwar, preferring to settle here.

Known in bureaucracy circles as a strict disciplinarian and upright officer, Mrinal Kanti has held key positions in the Government of Odisha, his last position being the Chairman of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) Limited.

Amongst Mrinal Kanti’s various contributions has been the ESI Hospital in Bhubaneswar and MDC on SHE of which the octogenarian continued to be on the Board as Founder President.

Mrinal Kanti is bereaved by his wife, daughter, son, daughter-in-law and grandson. His last rites were performed at Swarga Dwar in Puri by his son Pritam Purkayastha, who is currently the Director of Biju Patnaik National Steel Institute (BPNSI), an Institution under the Ministry of Steel, Govt of India.
