Odisha govt clears Rs 100 infra plan for VSS Medical College

Bhubaneswar, June 28:

The Odisha government has given its in-principle nod to Rs 100 crore proposal for infrastructure development of Veer Surendra Sai University (VSSUT), Burla, which includes construction of additional hostels, lecturers’ complex, faculty housing units, road and drain development and campus lighting.

It was approved at a high level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra wherein ET&T secretary Chandra Sekhar Kumar outlined the need for development of infrastructure in the University.

The University formed in the year 2009, has so far received Rs 18 crore over the last three year for infrastructural development. During the last two years, the intake capacity of the course in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Information Technology has been enhanced and new programmes like Metallurgy, M. Tech in Information & Communication Technology, 5- year integrated course in Chemistry have been approved for the university.

It has been decided in the meeting to introduce courses in Chemical Engineering, Microwave Engineering and 5-year Integrated course in Physics from the current year. At present, the campus strength of the university is around 2800. Hostel facility is available for around 1700 students.

Considering the need for additional hostel accommodation, it was decided in the meeting to construct a new boys; hostel for 750 students and an additional girls’ hostel for around 500 students.

Similarly, the proposals for construction of 42 units of faculty housing, renovation of existing hostels, development of road and drains, landscaping and site development, street light, transformers, lightening arrester etc were approved in the meeting.
