Odisha govt plans to open revenue circle in each panchayat

The Odisha government has plans to open a revenue circle in each panchayat, Revenue minister Bijayshree Routray informed the State Assembly on Monday.

Assembly small sizeReplying to a question by Raseswar Panigrahi, he said his department had submitted a proposal to this effect to the Finance department in 2012-13.

Stating that there are 2271 revenue circles in the state, the minister said an additional 4133 revenue circles would be opened- one in every panchayat- under the new proposal.

Keeping this in view, the Revenue department has proposed opening of 1283 revenue circles in the panchayats coming under Scheduled Tribe Sub Plan areas and 2850 in other panchayats.

“Since implementation of the plan would require Rs 929.93 crore, my department, in a letter to the Finance department on October 1 last year, has requested to submit the proposal to the 14th Finance Commission”, Routray said.

He also said, the state government has asked the Board of Revenue to submit a detailed report on the opening of these revenue circles.

On the basis of the report, the process for opening of these circles would begin, the minister told the House.
