Odisha HC Bar Assn suspends 3 lawyers. Here’s why

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association today suspended three lawyers for allegedly trying to weaken the unity among the agitating lawyers and sabotage the agitation, informed association’s secretary Satyabrata Mohanty.

The three lawyers are BJD legal front convenor Milan Kanungo, BJD legal front advisor Asim Amitabh Das and former HC bar vice-president Banshidhar Satpathy.

On the other hand, show cause notice has been served to the bar council’s president Tahali Mohanty in this regard.

It may be recalled here that friction between two groups of lawyers of the Orissa High Court was evident on October 29 as the agitating lawyers resisted the entry of BJD Legal Front members into the court premises.

The BJD Legal Front had withdrawn its support towards the cease-work agitation by the lawyers. The move of the front came after the Orissa High Court Bar Association declared to intensify its strike and burn effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
