Odisha: ITI student who attempted suicide after ‘ragging’ dies

Bhadrak: An ITI student, who had attempted suicide after allegedly being ragged by college seniors last week, died under treatment at the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.

Asutosh Mallick, the first year Electrical student of Purna Chandra ITI College at Tihidi in Bhadrak district, succumbed yesterday night, family sources informed today.

Upset over being ragged at college, the 20-year-old student, son of Bhaktahari Mallick of Chhandasahi village under Tihidi Block, had consumed poison on September 9 (Friday) after returning to home.

The victim had been admitted to the Tihidi Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition. Later, he was shifted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital, from where he was taken to the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack after his condition worsened.

However, the student lost the battle for life and passed away while undergoing treatment on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, the college authorities denied allegation of ragging by seniors students.
