[Watch] Odisha MLA’s car ploughs into crowd injuring many; irate locals thrash legislator

Bhubaneswar: Fresh trouble mounted for Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev, who was suspended from ruling BJD last year for anti-party activities, after his vehicle ploughed into a crowd injuring over two dozens of people, including police personnel in Banpur of Khordha district.

Reportedly, the MLA was on is way to Banpur in his SUV for election to the post of block chairman post, scheduled to be held today. Since there was a rush near Banpur block office for the election, the legislator ploughed his vehicle into the crowd injuring over two dozens of people, including 15 BJP and one BJD workers along with seven cops.

While one critically-injured woman was rushed to a hospital in Banpur, two others were shifted to Bhubaneswar AIIMS for treatment.

Anguished over the incident, locals made a murderous attack on the legislator injuring him severely. The mob also vandalized his vehicle. As Jagdev suffered a severe head injury, he was rushed to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment. Meanwhile, BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan has left for the accident site to take stock.

“Around 15 BJP workers, a BJD worker and seven police personnel were injured in the incident. A probe has been initiated into the matter,” said Balugaon SDPO.

After being suspended from BJD in September last year for assaulting a BJP leader near Chilika lake, Jagdev was arrested a month after in connection with the incident. He was later sent to jail after a sessions court rejected his bail petition.
