Odisha MP Anubhav Mohanty files divorce suit in Delhi court

Bhubaneswar: Ollywood’s most adorable couple Anubhav Mohanty and Varsha Priyadarshini is going to part their ways after 6 years of their wedlock as the actor-turned-politician has filed a petition seeking divorce from his actress wife on various grounds.

Interestingly, the marital discord between Anubhav and Varsha came to fore yesterday after media reported a domestic violence case was filed by the actress wife in the SDJM Court, Cuttack, on August 7, 2020. In his comment, Anubhav had said that he is yet to receive any notice in connection with the criminal case filed by wife.

In his 47-page petition filed at the Patiala House Court in Delhi, the Kendrapara MP has leveled serious allegations against his wife. A month before Varsha moved to a local court in Cuttack accusing Anubhav of physical and mental torture, the parliamentarian had filed divorce petition on July 6, 2020.

Anubhav reportedly mentioned in the petition that he was not a happy person as his wife Varsha was not allowing him to establish physical relationship with her since their marriage.

Reportedly, Varsha had refused to be in conjugal relationship with husband on the first day of their marriage in the year 2014.

She had asked him 3-4 months time for it, Anubhav said in his petition adding that he had also agreed with her respecting to her decision.

The married life of the couple was not smoother even in Delhi when Anubhav went to the national capital after being elected to the Rajya Sabha for the first time on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket.

He alleged that he was disappointed after making serious attempts to establish physical intimacy with Vasha in Delhi.

His next attempt was after the couple returned to Cuttack where Varsha seemed happy. The actress wife assured him of getting on with a happy and healthy married life. But, to Anubhav’s further disappointment, his wife sought more time.

In the petition, Anubhav alleged Varsha of not staying at in-laws’ house and was not concerned for him, which caused crack in their years long relationship.

She failed to prove to be a good wife and daughter-in-law. She miserably failed to discharge her matrimonial duties and obligations thereby harassing and torturing him, Anubhav alleged.

Besides, he also alleged that Varsha had never treated him as her husband and made false allegations by linking him with other co-actresses. She was always threatening him to drag him as well as his family in the false criminal cases.

In the petition, he said that Varsha used to abuse and insult him on very small things and used to visit her parental home and lived separately from him.

He said that he suffered both mentally and physically for which he wants to end his marriage.

The series of allegations Anubhav made in the petition a month before Varsha filed a case under section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
