Bhoomisodhan, mahasnana of the tree and ankuroropan rituals which were scheduled to be held on Wednesday had been deferred for Thursday, said Daitapatis present at the Nilakantheswar temple premises. The mahayagna will start from May 1, they added.

As weather conditions improved on Wednesday, devotees made a beeline to the site again despite roads having turned muddy due to Tuesday’s rains. The road condition was so bad that Banajaga Yatris reached the site after 4 PM on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Lord Balabhadra’s daru, which bid adieu to its place of origin-Kanakpur, the seat of Maa Sarala on a sagadi (cart) for its final destination Puri amid chants of Jai Jagannath, Haribol, ululation and beats of cymbals and mridangas on Tuesday had halted for the night at Jaipur and had crossed Raghunathpur bazaar by Wednesday evening. Devotees lined up the entire route through which the sagadi passed, the air loaded with religious fervor as men and women made offerings and lighted wicker lamps while some prostrated on all fours in obeisance.
