Bhubaneswar, Mar 22 :
Pained over the manner in which Congress in Odisha is being run by the present state leadership and the gross degeneration of values that has set in the party today, Congress leader and social activist Suparno Satpathy, grandson of former chief minister Nandini Satpathy, has resigned from the party, a release from his office late on Friday night said.
In an obvious reference to Union minister Srikant Jena and Jayadev Jena , Suparno in his letter to Sonia Gandhi said “ The Odisha Congress is being made to race towards destruction and all this, for the vested interest of a handful of people. The cartel works in Odisha against the interest of the party.”
Suparno who joined the party in 2006 said in his letter, “ I am pained to see the party tickets for the 16th Lok Sabha from Odisha are being given to criminal elements. Money and unethical practices played a vital role in candidate selection. In fact the party in Odisha is on an inverse role to what it preaches . The degradation in the value system in Odisha is repugnant.”
Suparno has predicted doom for the party in Odisha and said “ the way things are being handled here, it is the writing on the wall that May 16 is going to be a sad day for the Congress in Odisha.”
Suparno Satpathy, son of Nandini Satpathy's elder son Nachiketa Satpathy, is the chairman of the Shrimati Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) and is actively involved in a number of pro-people initiatives in Dhenkanal and other parts of the state.
