Bhubaneswar, July 1:

The Odisha government today requested the Centre to release Rs 2000 crore for the 2014-15 fiscal as well as the outstanding dues from previous years at the earliest for smooth implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in the state.

“The Centre has indicated a figure of Rs 1010 crore as tentative allocation of funds under PMGSY for Odisha of which only Rs 300 crore has been released during the current fiscal,” said chief minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi today.

He said out of a total of Rs 17814.25 crore sanctioned by the Union Rural Development ministry since the inception of the scheme, it has so far released Rs 11633.02 crore, which has been fully spent leaving a balance sanction of Rs 6181.23 crore.

Stating that since there are ongoing works of around Rs 3200 crore and another Rs 1500 crore of works are in the tender process, allocation of Rs 1010 crore made by the ministry during the current fiscal will not be sufficient, Patnaik urged the prime minister to enhance the amount to at least Rs 2000 crore.
