Tortured Odisha woman hatches plot with 3 to kill hubby; all arrested

Balasore: A woman of Ganeswarpur under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district was today arrested for allegedly hatching and executing a plan to kill her husband after being unable to bear torture inflicted on her by him.

Besides Basanti Behera, the accused woman, police have arrested her brother-in-law Bhagirathi Das, Akash Das and Banchhanidhi Chanda. The three had allegedly taken money from her to kill her husband.

The woman reportedly gave them Rs 50,000 to kill her husband Madhab Behera. On December 27, Akash and Banchhanidhi took Madhab to a secluded place and made him consume liquor. They later crushed him to death with stone, reports said.

During investigation, police came to know about Basanti’s involvement in the incident.

“Basanti Behera’s husband used to torture and beat her after getting drunk. Unable to bear it, she hatched a plan with her brother-in-law and two others to eliminate her husband. We have arrested all of them and they will be forwarded to court,” said Paresh Rout, IIC, Sahadevkhunta police station.
