Odisha’s Chilika lake nominated for World Heritage site tag

India has sent a revised list of 46 monuments and sites across the country for inclusion in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) catalogue of World Heritage Sites, including Odisha’s Chilika lake.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture Dr Mahesh Sharma on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the list, which contains 46 monuments and sites, include the Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim; Buddhist sites at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh; Mughal Gardens in Kashmir;
Sri Harminder Sahib in Amritsar; and the Chilika Lake in Odisha, among others.

Golconda Fort and Charminar – both now in Telangana – are also in the list.
