Odisha’s COVID-19 fatality rate 3rd lowest in country

Bhubaneswar: Even though the rate of COVID-19 active cases in Odisha is on steep rising curve, the state’s fatality rate is third lowest in the country.

As per official data,  Odisha’s case fatality rate is 0.42 % as against the national average of 1.65 %. Assam has the lowest fatality of 0.32 % followed by Kerala with 0.40 %.    

Expressing contentment over the achievement, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “with effective strategies, proper treatment and healthcare infrastructure, Odisha has saved many precious lives and emerged as one of the top three states with lowest number of deaths.”

In terms of total positive cases, Odisha currently stands at number 10 with 1,58,650 cases  while Maharashtra has the highest number of 10,77,374 cases. In active cases, the state is in sixth position with 35,926. Maharashtra has the highest number of 2,91,256 active cases.

Earlier in August, Odisha had become the number one state in the country in conducting COVID-19 tests per million population in a single day.
