Odisha’s Sudarsan Pattnaik eyes world record for biggest Santa Claus sand art

Bhubaneswar: Internationally-acclaimed sand artist from Odisha, Sudarsan Pattnaik has attempted the world record for biggest Santa Claus sand art by sculpting it at the Puri beach on the occasion of Christmas eve.

Pattnaik carved the Santa Claus sand art with installation of red roses and other flowers with the message “Merry Christmas, Enjoy your Christmas with COVID guidelines”.

He has created a 50-ft long and 28-ft wide sand sculpture of Santa Claus. Around 5400 red roses and white flowers have been installed on the sand art.

Pattnaik with the help of Sudarsan Sand Art Institute students completed the creation of the sculpture after an eight-hour-long effort and two days of preparation.

“We created this sand art where Santa is spreading a message of following COVID guidelines. I hope this will set a new world record,” said Pattnaik.

In 2018, he had created a 30-feet high and 100-feet wide Santa Claus sand art with usage of 10,000 plastic bottles. The sand art bore the message of beating plastic pollution.
