Orissa HC quashes petition seeking cancellation of India-South Africa T20I match

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court (HC) today quashed a petition seeking cancellation of India-South Africa T20I match scheduled to be played at the iconic Barabati Stadium here on June 12

Earlier this month, one Sanjay Nayak of Bhuban area in Dhenkanal district had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court claiming that the Barabati Stadium lacks adequate fire safety measures. He had sought the order of the court for the cancellation of the match.

The state Government, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and 12 others were made parties in the case.

Worth mentioning, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), acting on a petition filed by Nishikanta Mishra, had recently sought a report from concerned authorities regarding the fire safety measures at the Barabati Stadium.

The commission had issued notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and DCP, Cuttack.

OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera had said that adequate fire safety arrangements will be made at the stadium to avoid any untoward incident during the international match.
