Papamochani Ekadashi Vrat 2023 Date, Tithi, Time to Break Upvas

Papamochani Ekadashi falls on the ‘ekadashi’ of the Krishna Paksha in the month of ‘Chaitra’ in North Indian calendar. In the South Indian calendar, this ekadashi is observed in the Hindu month of ‘Phalgun’.

Papamochani Ekadashi is the last ekadashi observance of the 24 ekadashis in the Hindu calendar.

When Papamochani Ekadashi falls on a Thursday, it holds special significance and is known as ‘Guruvar Ekadashi’.

Devotees consider it auspicious to observe fast on the day of Papamochani Ekadashi.

Papamochani Ekadashi 2023 Date: March 18, Saturday.

Ekadashi Tithi Begins: March 17, 2023 2:07 PM.

Ekadashi Tithi Ends: March 18, 2023 11:14 AM.

Fast/ Upvas Breaking Time: March 19, 6:36 AM – March 19, 8:07 AM.

Rituals: Devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath with Kush and sesame seeds, and keep fast.

However, partial fasting with consumption of non-grain foods, milk, nuts and fruits is also allowed.

The fast is broken next day after offering prayers to Lord Vishnu.

Having non-vegetarian food on this day is not advised.

Devotees read ‘Sri Vishnu Sahasranama’ on Papamochani Ekadashi and worship Lord Vishnu.

They offer Tulsi leaves, flowers, fruits, lamp and incense sticks to Lord Vishnu. Offering mogra or jasmine flowers is also believed to be highly meritorious.

The vrat observer also visit temples of Lord Vishnu in the evening.

Special events are organised in the temples like reciting important chapters of the sacred Bhagavad Gita.
