Puneeth Rajkumar’s funeral postponed

Bengaluru: Kannada power star Puneeth Rajkumar’s funeral, which was scheduled to be held this evening, has been postponed to tomorrow.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the cremation had been postponed due to delayed arrival of the late actor’s daughter from New York and to give more time for fans unable to pay their final respect.

“Mr Rajkumar’s daughter has taken the flight to Bengaluru. Her flight from the US landed in Delhi this afternoon. She probably will reach by 5.30 – 6 pm. There is a huge gathering of public awaiting to pay their last respect while many wanted to just get a last glimpse of the actor. After 6 pm cremation in that small place, in the dark, will be challenging. After discussing with the family, we have decided to postpone the funeral to tomorrow. The time will be decided late tonight,” he said.

“So fans can come for public viewing till tomorrow morning. Fans do not need to panic… they can peacefully come to pay their last respect to ‘Appu’ (as Mr Rajkumar was fondly called),” he said.

Earlier this morning the Chief Minister and Governor Thawarchand Gehlot paid their final tribute to the actor, who will be cremated with full state honours. Currently, his body has been kept at Kanteerava Stadium.
