Puri Srimandir gears up for Snana Jatra tomorrow; darshan restricted for secret ritual today

Puri: With a day left for Snana Jatra of Lord Jagannath and His divine siblings at Puri Srimandir tomorrow, Senapata Lagi of the deities is being performed by servitors at the shrine since early this morning.

As the secret rituals will continue till 2 pm today, general darshan at the temple has been restricted for the period. Mangala Alati and other rituals will be performed once Singhadwara (main gate) of the temple reopens after 2 pm, said a servitor.

During the ritual, which is performed a day before Snana Jatra, Daitapati servitors apply a paste made from Baula Katha (piece of wood of Baula tree) on bodies of the deities.

After a gap of two years, Snana Jatra will be observed with public participation this year. Devotees will be able to have drashan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Lord Sudarshan and Devi Subhadra, from the path below the bathing altar. The ritual was observed sans devotees over the last two years, due to COVID pandemic.

Also, for the first time, devotees will be allowed to have darshan of the Lord of the Universe atop on Snana Bedi (bathing altar) of the centuries-old shrine on the auspicious occasion of  Deba Snana Purnima tomorrow. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had announced this earlier last month. They will be not charged for the darshan to take place for three hours.

However, there will be Parimanik (paid) darshan during Pahandi of the deities from Ratna Bedi to Snana Bedi.
