Rainfall in Odisha likely till August 10 as monsoon strengthens

Bhubaneswar: With strengthening of monsoon and likely formation of a low pressure area over Bay of Bengal on August 7, several parts of Odisha may experience rainfall till August 10, the Regional Meteorological Centre here forecasted.

“Under influence of gradual strengthening of monsoon flow and the anticipated low pressure area, rainfall activity very likely to increase gradually from today and widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at one or two places likely to occur during 6th to 10th August over the districts of Odisha,” the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

Below is day-wise forecast in this connection:

Day-1: (Valid up to 0830 Hrs IST of 06.08.22)

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Bhadrak.

Day-2: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 06.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 07.08.22.)

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.

Day-3: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 07.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 08.08.22)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha and Jagatsinghpur.

Day-4: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 08.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 09.08.22)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Jagatsinghpur.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Bhadrak.

Day-5: (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 09.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 10.08.22)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Cuttack with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri.

Notably, a low pressure area is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around 7th August.
