Sitting BJD MP from Kandhamal in southern Odisha Rudramadhav Ray was suspended for anti-party activities by party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik today.
Ray was denied the party ticket to contest the polls from the Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat this time and former Congress leader Hemendra Singh of Nayagarh nominated in his place by the party supremot.
After the announcement of Singh as the BJD candidate for Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat, Ray had organised several meetings of his followers in different parts of Kandhamal to pressurize the party leadership to reconsider its decision in his favour.
Singh had joined BJD after quitting Congress just before the 2014 elections.
