Stevedores staff resort to cease-work at Odisha’s Paradip port

Paradip: Stevedores staff and drivers at Odisha’s Paradip port today resorted to cease-work protesting transfer of labour union leaders and dismissal of some employees.

Cargo operation was severely affected at the port due to the strike. Around 2,000 staff engaged in cargo handling at the port staged protest in front of the offices of stevedoring companies.

The staff and drivers led by the leaders were earlier staging agitation demanding an eight-hour duty. However, the leaders were intentionally transferred by the higher authorities, they alleged.

The agitators have also threatened that they would continue the stir until their issues are resolved.
