Stuck in car, 6-YO boy chokes to death in Odisha

Berhampur: In a gut-wrenching incident, a six-year-old boy choked to death after accidentally locking himself in a car parked near his maternal grandparents’ house on Saturday.

The incident was reported in Halandakhola village of Jagannathprasad block under Tarasingh police limits in Bhanjanagar town of Ganjam district.

The deceased has been identified as Sai Krishna, son of Bikran Pradhan of Patharapalli village under Pratapur block in the district.

According to information, the minor boy had been to Halandakhola village with his mother Sunita Pradhan to attend his maternal grandmother’s Dashah (tenth day of funeral). As everyone was occupied with work, the six-year-old boy while playing in the afternoon, hopped into a car parked with one of its doors opened. As soon as he stepped in, the door was shut from inside and he got trapped inside the vehicle.

With all doors and glasses of the car closed, Sai soon began to suffocate inside, and failing to find a way out, he collapsed on the seat.

Noticing the child’s absence at home for quite sometime, Sunita and some family members started to look for him. They were shocked when they found him collapsed inside the car.

Sai was immediately rescued from the vehicle and rushed to Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

The minor boy’s father Bikram Pradhan is currently stranded in Surat due to nationwide lockdown. Under such circumstances, the world’s strength was not enough for a hapless mother Sunita to bear the loss of his six year old son.
