Bhubaneswar, Aug 31:

Controversial fortune-teller Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra, the founder of the Trahi Achyuta ashram near Odisha’s capital city, and his two sons – Trilochan and Biranchi Narayan – were sent to Jharpada jail after being produced in the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court here this evening.

The father-son trio was detained by commissionerate police in the wee hours today on the basis of an FIR lodged by activist Jayanta Kumar Bhoi at the Balipatna police station late last night. They were formally arrested at 10.30 am today after being interrogated by a three-member team led by Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi for about an hour.

Commissionerate police did not move any remand petition in the court. Nor did the counsel for accused Sura Baba move any bail petition.

“We did not file any bail petition since we did not know the charges that have been pressed against my client,” Sura Baba’s counsel Manmohan Panda told OST.
