Swine flu death toll jumps to 42 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The swine flu death toll in Odisha increased to 42 with two more persons succumbing to the deadly H1N1 virus today, official sources said.

The two patients died of swine flu while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Wednesday.

Kalpana Jena (55), a native of Damodarpatna village in Jagatsinghpur district, died at around 1 am whereas another person died this afternoon.

With this, the swine flu toll at SCB Medical rose to 15 so far, an official said.

Meanwhile, 6 persons tested positive for H1N1 out of 22 swab samples tested at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) today.

So far the total number of positive cases in the State increased to 361out of 1111 swab samples, a health department statement said.

Earlier, the state government had issued guidelines to both government and private hospitals for the treatment of swine flu patients.

Meanwhile, the number dengue patients in the State are also on the rise. At least 68 patients are undergoing treatment in SCB’s dengue ward, said Dr Sriprasad Mohanty, in-charge of dengue ward.
