Titlagarh custodial death case: Odisha HRPC conducts probe

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bolangir, July 7:

The Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of the Odisha police today conducted its inquiry at the Bolangir Town police station in connection with the alleged custodial torture of one Basant Pradhan of Titlagarh leading to his death and the violence that followed.

The HRPC team, which arrived here after completing its inquiry in Titlagarh, however, refused to divulge any details of their findings before the media here.

It may be recalled here that IICs of Titlagarh and Balangir Town police stations were suspended after the incident.

Initially the government was mulling a Crime Branch probe into the incident but later the HRPC of the Odisha police was assigned the job of investigating the case.

Police sources said it was continuing with the drive to arrest people involved in the violence and setting ablaze the Titlagarh SDPO office following the death of Basant Pradhan, allegedly as a consequence of custodial torture.
