Tortured by fellow cadres, Maoist surrenders before Odisha police

Nuapada: A Maoist cadre, identified as Durbadala Bariha (40) alias Badal, surrendered before Nuapada SP today after being harassed and tortured by his fellow cadres.

Badal, hailing from Bargarh district, was involved in Maoist activities since April, 2009. He was working in Bargarh-Balangir-Mahasamund division of the ultras. He was forcefully inducted into the Maoist organisation by Sankar Majhi alias David.

Discrimination and humiliation of Odisha cadres by Telugu and Chhattisgarhi cadres was another reason for which Bada left the organisation.

He was involved in torching a road construction camp in Bargarh in 2009, burning a truck in Bargarh in 2011 and killing a civilian in Bargarh in 2012.

Carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, Badal will be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of the Odisha Government.
