Train torching case: Odisha police arrest 51 persons

The Government Railway Police (GRP) today arrested 51 persons on the charge of setting fire to an Express train and ransacking Delang railway station in Odisha’s Puri district on Friday.

According to police, the arrested villagers had ransacked the Delang railway station and later set the a bogey of Puri-Barbil-Chakradharpur Express on fire in the morning hours on April 17 following the death of Ratnakar Chhatoi, a youth of Guliapada village under Delang police station limits who died after falling from the Puri-Barbil Express train at Delang railway station at about 7.50 PM on the previous day.

Following the incident, train services between Khordha Road and Puri was disrupted for more than seven hours.

Police later rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Expressing concerned over the incident, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik had promised strong action against the miscreants and assured to deploy even more forces and do everything possible to keep the situation under control.
