Vigilance unearths properties worth crores of former Police Constable

Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance unearthed moveable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees owned by former Constable of the Police Commissionerate, Prasanna Kumar Behera following raids at different places today.

Based on allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches at his government residential quarter at Kalpana Square, Spark furniture Pvt. Ltd at Dumduma, furniture work shop at Santha Vihar in Lingipur, South City Bar at Patrapada and double-storeyed building at native village Nuapada in Khordha.

Vigilance official sources said Behera’s spark furniture showroom at Dumduma on plot measuring area around 0.250 acre registered in 2019 with sale deed worth Rs 1,47,60,000, cost of furniture showroom with built up area around 18,000 sqft. including basement and ground floor worth over Rs 2 crore.

Also, he owns one plot worth Rs 45 lakh at Nuapada, Khordha, one flat in name of his spouse worth Rs 24 lakh at Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar.

Insurance deposits over Rs 50 lakh in the name of Behera, his family members and relatives were also seized.

Four numbers of four-wheelers i.e Tata Safari Storme worth Rs 12,71,416, one Maruti Baleno worth Rs 7,87,000, two numbers of Tata Ace worth Rs 11,44,000 and two numbers of two wheelers i.e. Royal Enfield Bullet worth Rs 1,72,247, TVS Victor worth Rs 44,778 were also owned by Behera.

A total of 21 numbers of bank passbooks have been unearthed during the house search so far.

Five teams of the Odisha Vigilance led by two DSPs, six Inspectors and other staff participated in the searches on basis of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

The Vigilance Technical Wing has been deputed to carry out valuation of the buildings. Also, the Vigilance Finance Wing and the Vigilance Forest Wing personnel along with professional furniture manufacturer have been roped in for valuation of huge number of costly furniture items displayed in the furniture show room.

Behera was found to have unauthorisedly extended his government quarter at Kalpana Square by construction of eight more rooms which is being probed by Vigilance Technical Wing.

On October 24, the Bhubaneswar DCP had dismissed Behera from the Odisha Police with immediate effect after he was arrested in connection with the Manish murder case.
