Woman dies of dengue post delivery in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With increase in dengue cases in Bhubaneswar, a woman died of the mosquito-borne viral disease after her delivery at the Capital Hospital here yesterday, the hospital authorities confirmed it today.

The deceased woman was from Rajkanika area of Kendrapara district.

According to reports, the pregnant woman had come to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on July 23. She underwent C-section to deliver a baby at the state-run hospital. Four days after delivery, she was detected positive for dengue following which the doctors started treatment for the high fever. However, she succumbed to dengue on Sunday.

“One pregnant woman was admitted to the Capital Hospital for delivery. It was her first pregnancy. She delivered the baby following a surgery. Before surgery, she had undergone all medical tests including dengue which report came negative at that time. On July 27, again we tested her blood sample after the patient suffered from fever post delivery. This time, the test result was positive for dengue. Following detection of dengue, she was under treatment both for fever and post-delivery complications. As she was diagnosed with Dengue Shock Syndrome, she could not be saved despite all efforts by the doctors,” said Capital Hospital Director Dr. Laxmidhar Sahoo today.

As per Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, more than 500 people in Bhubaneswar have been infected with dengue so far. Many of them also get recovered from the disease.

As per the report till Sunday, total 34 dengue patients were undergoing at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, two patients had died of suspected dengue at the hospital. However, the authorities are yet to confirm the dengue deaths report.
