Arun Bal , 1986 batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi, this morning.  Bal who was posted as joint secretary, Ministry of Defence, suffered a massive heart stroke while he was on his morning walk. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bal, 52, who originally hailed from Anandpur in Keonjhar district had settled down in Cuttack where his father, late Dr Gangadhar Bal, had worked as a professor of Odia . He graduated from Bhadrak College and did his PG in Political Science at JNU.

He leaves behind his wife Nibedita, daughter Ananya and son Arnav, who is in 3rd year engg in VIT.
