Your farm, families awaiting your return: Odisha CM after PM’s announcement on farm laws

Bhubaneswar: Addressing protesting farmers across the country following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on farm laws, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said, “Your farms and families have been waiting for long and they will be happy to welcome you back.”

Lakhs of farmers have been staging nation-wide protests for over a year demanding revocation of the farm laws. Reportedly, more than 800 farmers have lost their lives during their movement.

Patnaik took to Twitter and welcomed the PM’s decision to repeal all three farm laws.

He said the decision will serve the best interests of the country and its farmers. The ruling BJD continues to stand with the farmers, he stated.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti announced that the Government has decided to repeal all three farm laws.

He said, “The three farm laws were for the benefit of farmers. But we couldn’t convince a section of farmers despite our best efforts.  The goal of the three farm laws was to empower farmers, especially small farmers. In the coming Parliament session, we will take constitutional measures to repeal these farm laws.”

Meanwhile, farmer leader and Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) National Spokesperson Rakesh Tikait warned that the agitation will not be withdrawn until the farm laws are not repelled in the Parliament.
