Matric results: Youth consumes poison for ‘scoring less marks’ in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj, critical

Betanoti: Unable to bear the failure, a disappointed youth allegedly consumed poison a few hours after matriculation examination results were announced today. The incident was reported from Purunapani village under Betanoti block in Mayurbhanj district. The condition of the student is critical now.

The identity of the male student is not being revealed here as he is a minor.

According to a source, the student had been residing at his maternal uncle’s house in Angaragadia village and was studying in Class X at Dinabandhu high school in the district. He expected good marks in the matriculation exam.

However, he became disappointed, when he got only 242 marks. He received a mental jolt after the results were out. The minor has passed the Matric exams in B Grade.

When no one else from his family was present in the house, the youth consumed a pesticide that was previously kept for use in their farmland and became critical. He was rescued by his family and was immediately admitted to a health facility in Baisinga for treatment.

The student was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Balasore after his health condition deteriorated.

“The minor is not out of danger now,” a doctor treating him in the government-run health facility said.
