2 Jawans injured in anti-Maoist operation airlifted to Bhubaneswar; DGP accompanies

Bhubaneswar/Bhawanipatna: Two SOG Jawans suffered critical injuries during an exchange of fire with Maoists that took place in Uma forest near Boudh-Kandhamal border today.

The two security personnel were later airlifted to Bhubaneswar by DGP Abhay, who rushed to them after hearing the news.

Sources said based on a reliable input, an operation was launched under Gochapada police station in Kandhamal district on July 9. During search of the core area, Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on the security forces this morning. Two commandos of SOG sustained bullet injuries.

Both of them with the help of CRPF were rescued and brought to the road head from the operational area.

Hearing  this, DGP, who was on a tour to Malkangiri and Koraput districts to review anti-LWE work,  canceled his programme midway at Sunabeda and rushed to Padelpada in Boudh. He himself airlifted the injured to Bhubaneswar with a doctor accompanying them, sources added.

Meanwhile, combing operation has been intensified in the area.

As per latest information, condition of both the commandoes is stable. The senior cop will reportedly address the media regarding the incident shortly.
