400 Maoist militias surrender before police in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The Left Wing Extremism (LWE) received a jolt in Odisha as over 400 militias surrendered before the police during an outreach programme at Jantapai under Chitrakonda block of Malkangiri district today.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitesh Wadhwani and senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) were present at the mass connect programme. Hundreds of villagers from Swabhimaan Anchal (erstwhile cut-off areas of Chitrakonda) participated in the event.

The surrendered militias were provided with clothes and other essential goods by the police administration. They took a pledge to sever their ties with the LWE and cooperate with the district administration.

The district administration also assured the surrendered militias of adequate security and self-employment opportunities. An effigy of a LWE militia was burnt on the occasion.
