Man arrested for torturing wife

Bhubaneswar, Sep 29:

The commissionerate police on Sunday arrested a 40-year-old man from Khandagiri area of the city on the charge of brutal physical torture of his wife.

imageThe accused Ranjan Panda, a native of Banki was arrested after his wife Jashoda Panda (31) of Amanapada village near Phulanakhara lodged a complaint with the Mahila Police on Saturday.

In her complaint, the victim, who bore multiple serious injuries on various parts of her body including her private parts, said her husband, who presently resides at Mallick complex at Jagamara near Khandagiri and runs a tent-house business, began inflicting physical torture on her after one year of the marriage which was solemnized on September 28, 2005.

“Our marital life was peaceful for one year. However, from 2006, he started torturing me physically everyday demanding more dowry and citing other reasons under the influence of liquor. However, I tolerated all his brutality for the sake of my only son,” she told reporters after lodging the complaint.

Meanwhile, police booked Ranjan under section 498 (A), 323, 294, 307 of the IPC and 4DP Act.
