Odisha man sets shop afire as shopkeeper demands Rs 130 pending bill

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Odisha capital here today arrested a person on charges of setting a grocery shop on fire in Chandaka area of the city last night.

The accused has been identified as Sadasiba Swain (35), son of Krushna Chandra Swain, of Madhupur under Chandaka police limits in the city here.

As per the complaint, Sadasiba had purchased grocery items worth around Rs 130 on credit from the shop of Ranjit Kumar Sahoo a few days ago.

Sadasiba allegedly threatened Ranjit of dire consequences when he asked the former to pay the money yesterday evening.

Sadasiba allegedly set Ranjit’s grocery shop on fire while the latter was inside it at around 11.30 pm yesterday.

Ranjit managed to escape the fire but his shop along with grocery items worth above Rs 1 lakh were gutted in the incident.

Ranjit lodged a complaint in this regard with Chandaka police.

The police arrested Sadasiba after registering a case under Sections 436, 307 and 506 of the IPC.
