Tension at mall in Odisha capital as staff assault student

Tension prevailed at the Kharvel Nagar capital city after a student of Utkal University was allegedly assaulted by some mall employees this evening over a petty issue.

The assaulted student Pabitra Mohanty of Kendrapara, who is pursuing his post graduate degree in Utkal University, was working part time at Big Bazaar for the last six months.

Pabitra alleged that the mall manager Pratyush Mohanty had been subjecting him to mental torture and suing slangs even on small matters.

He said ne was beaten up by some staff of the mal when he resisted some slangs used by Mohanty today,. he then called his friends in the university to protest against the assault of the mall staff.

The students of the university shut down the mall and did not allow  people to go inside for several hours protesting against the assault. After getting information, city DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, along with local IIC, reached the spot and investigated the matter.

Two platoons of police forces were called to the spot to restore normalcy in the place.

Meanwhile acting on the FIR lodged by the victim, the local police have detained seven mall employees.
