ACF death mystery: Lie detection test reports of Bidya Bharati, DFO out

Bhubaneswar: In a fresh development in Paralakhemundi ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra’s death mystery, Odisha Crime Branch (CB), which is probing the case, received lie detection test reports of all three accused today.

The investigating agency is currently examining the polygraph test reports of Paralakhemundi DFO Sangram Keshari Behera, deceased ACF’s wife Bidya Bharati and cook Manmath Kumbha.

The reports will be matched with the previous recorded statements of the accused trio, informed Crime Branch ADG Sanjeev Panda. The findings will help expedite the investigation, he added.

Bidya Bharati had undergone the lie detection test at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) here on September 20, a few days after the CB conducted polygraph test of the two other accused. Around a hundred questions were put up before the senior forest official during the lie detection test. The DFO and the cook had undergone the polygraph test as their statements recorded by the police and the Crime Branch did not match.

The Paralakhemundi ACF was found in a critical condition with burn injuries at his official residence on July 12 and died the next day at a private hospital in Cuttack, triggering much hue and cry in the state. The death mystery was also raised in the state Assembly during the recently-concluded Monsoon Session with local MLA K Narayan Rao accusing the state Government of shielding the accused DFO in the case.

“The ACF’s father Abhiram had named the DFO, ACF’s wife and cook in his FIR. While Paralakhemundi police investigated the incident for over a month, the Crime Branch took over and probing it for the last weeks. But both are still clueless about the incident,” the legislator had alleged in the House during Zero Hour on September 7.
