Admission row: Odisha govt warns Hi-Tech medical college of stern action

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today warned the High-Tech Medical College authorities of stringent action if they violate the government rules demanding excess fees from students during admission, an official letter said.

The government also stated that the NOC (No objection certificate) of the college can be cancelled if any such instance comes to its notice.

The move came a day after the Parents’ Association appraised the Health Department officials seeking immediate intervention in the admission row at Hi-Tech medical college as students were asked to pay almost double the amount fixed by the government.

“Allegations have been received from various quarters including parents regarding non-admission and non-acceptance of the reporting of the students by your institution who have already taken admission through OJEE,” a letter addressed to High-Tech medical college principal by the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

“It is further alleged that the institution is insisting on undertaking/bonds from the students/parents regarding the increase of fee structure,” the letter reads.

The Institute shall abide by the fee structure, as decided by the Government. “Any violation of the above, will be treated as disobedience of Govt. orders, and if proved, this department will be compelled to withdraw the NOC/Essentiality Certificate issued to the Institution,”  it added.

While the State government has finalized the course fee at Rs 6.5 lakh, the college reportedly demanded Rs 11 lakh after the students took admission. Following which, the parents of the students knocked the door of Health Minister.
