The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dropped six players of the under-19 cricket team of Odisha due to mismatch in their date of birth.

The team has gone to Jharkhand to participate in the east zone Vinoo Mankad Trophy.

According to reports, the BCCI’s move came after the proofs of date of birth given by these players in the previous season and this season didn’t match.

The players who have been dropped from the team are Suryakant Samal, Harshit Rathod, Khyamasagar Bal, Sooraj Singh and Pratyush Mohapatra.

The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) will send new players to replace the dropped ones, sources said.

It may be recalled here that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had on August 23 conducted a search at the OCA office in Cuttack and interrogated around 30 young cricketers over alleged tampering of proof of date of birth by them.

Notably, some budding cricketers and athletes allegedly got selected for Cuttack-A and Cuttack-B teams for the Under-19 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2016 by furnishing forged date of birth certificates.
