An evening with music and comedy in Odisha Capital on R-Day

Bhubaneswar: Republic Day celebration can’t get any better with a series of programmes lined up in Odisha capital, giving a perfect start to the weekend.

Bhubaneswar-based group of stand-up comedians, Bhubaneswar Komedians and a musical band, Raag have come together for a 90-minute performance, ‘Comusical’, in a restaurant at Infocity road. “We have been doing a lot of shows and it’s Republic Day so we thought of something different,” said Akash Baghar, a member of Bhubaneswar Komedians.

“We are also releasing our first stand-up comedy video which will be up on YouTube. It revolves around burning issues in India,” Akash added.

Bhubaneswar Komedians gained prominence after their selection in the zonal round of a laughter reality show. “Our group is a mix of students and working professional. One of our team members is a senior lawyer at Orissa High Court. Three of our members, Satyabrat Mohapatra, Chetan Anand Sahu and Alokesh Sinha, had also qualified for the zonal round of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge aired on Star Plus,” he said.

When asked about their upcoming performance, Akash said it depends on the performer. “Political satire and comic take on current issues dominate my shows,” he said.

While Bhubaneswar Komedians will focus entirely on the city and the country-based issues, the band Raag have a set of some rock, romantic, and pop songs to take the audience on a different tour. “It’s Republic day tomorrow, so we will conclude the show with an instrumental version of ‘Jana Gana Mana’. I suppose, people will hear a metallic version of national anthem for the first time,” said Anshul Tiwary, the vocalist of Raag, which was formed a few months ago.

On the occasion of Republic Day, several programmes apart from the parade at Lower PMG have been scheduled. Cultural programmes, painting competitions, food festival, entertainment shows among others are set to treat your senses.
